Many Miele dishwashers have built-in diagnostic systems which allow your appliance to detect a fault or error, and show this on the door panel display. There’s an entire range of different digital displays relating to specific dishwasher models.
When you’ve identified the model number of your particular dishwasher, you’ll be able to enter the service mode by following the given instructions in your manufacturer’s manual. As you press the buttons in sequence the system cycle will then run through the possible faults and indicate problems with a fault code, or multiple fault codes.
So, what are the common Miele dishwasher fault codes? Read on to see the meaning of the letters and numbers showing on the display:
Miele dishwasher fault codes
Miele dishwasher fault F11
The cause of this error code is the water not draining away. This could be related to the filter combination of the cabinet becoming blocked, an object obstructing the drain pump, deposits in the drain hose or drainage system, or a kinked drain hose.
Miele dishwasher fault F12/F13
This is a water intake error and can be caused by a closed stopcock, a clogged water inlet filter, or a kink in the inlet hose. If the water pressure is lower than 0.3 bar, you’ll need professional advice from an experienced engineer.
Miele dishwasher fault F14
A problem with the heater pressure switch can result in another water intake fault. If this is malfunctioning it will cause the appliance to overfill as it’s responsible for measuring and heating the water level inside the dishwasher.
Miele dishwasher fault F24
Problems with the heater relay contacts are detected with this error code. The relay helps to control the heating system within the dishwasher, and if it isn’t being engaged the water won’t heat.
Miele dishwasher fault F32
When the door lock won’t close this error code will display. This fault may occur when the door is manually closed too quickly. If the appliance has an automatic door closing feature this could be where the problem lies.
Miele dishwasher fault F70
This display code is indicating an issue with the float switch resulting in the activation of the waterproof system. The float switch detects the level of water in the dishwasher, opening and closing an electrical circuit to pump water in or out. If this is defective the appliance won’t be able to operate properly.
Miele dishwasher fault F78
If a fault occurs in the circulation pump this error code will display. There may have been an interruption between the electronic and the circulation pump and they’re no longer connected, the frequency converter electronic device may be faulty, or the circulation pump itself may have low or excess voltage.
Miele dishwasher troubleshooting

Intake/drain indicator flashing
If your dishwasher won’t empty this could be an issue with a broken impeller on the drain pump, a kinked drain hose, a split-belt drive, or a defective motor. If your dishwasher is connected to the waste disposal, food remnants may become lodged in the drainage pipe.
The water supply may have been turned off, or there may be a fault with the water intake filter. The water pressure may need to be checked as this would also cause this error message to flash.
The display turns off
The possible fault here is that the dishwasher has gone into standby mode to save energy – if you press any button the display should turn on again. On some models, the display is only for the delay start function and the wash time remaining won’t be shown.
If the display is blank and there are audible button sounds this indicates that there is a fault in the software, and an update may be required. You’ll need to arrange a visit from an engineer to carry out this procedure for you.
